Guest Editor
Paul Ongley
It is an honour being a guest editor for this winter’s SJOG News hub edition.
Reading the articles, I learned a lot about how much SJOG is involved in all the aspects of the lives of the people they support and what is going on in the charity in a clear, easy-to-read and accessible format.
I appreciated the fact that everyone involved with SJOG – from frontline staff to the executive team - are fully informed, and I discovered the whole spectrum of the support that SJOG provides.
As somebody who uses the services of SJOG, I am fully involved in the running of the organisation, from interviewing new staff members, participating in decisions regarding Terry Yorath House where I live, and being consulted about the larger organisation-wide decisions as I am a member of the advisory council.
The involvement of people with disabilities and the fact we are given a voice, alongside the voices of people from MDS; autism services; older communities; homelessness services and the voices of staff who are here to support us, is evidence that SJOG is an organisation that has co-production as its core value.
I am looking forward to the next edition and once again, thanks for the opportunity to be involved in this initiative.
