Making Things Happen Together

The SJOG People’s Framework has organically evolved from the development of the People’s Charter and the SJOG Advisory Council. We reflected on our achievements as a council and evaluated how to drive our co-production approaches forward to ensure we capture the voices of all who access our services.

We decided on a transformative approach to co-production underpinned by the Think Local Act Personal National Partnership and six themes of the Making it Real Framework. This then drove the development of our own Peoples Framework.

The People’s Framework encompasses a range of feedback approaches from people we support, family members, professionals and colleagues to harness our values and drive person-led support.

To ensure co-production is not just a concept, but an embedded approach through our quality management systems, we have listened to the valued feedback from people in services and reflected the SJOG People’s Charter in our quality auditing processes. The 12 standards developed have informed the Quality Strategy for 2024-2027 and influenced service development approaches across the charity.

Our people and their experiences have also formed part of our learning offer and our experts by experience delivered training to managers on co-production in September this year, with more being planned in 2024. Experts have also collaborated on the development of our co-production policy ‘Making Things Happen Together’ and continue to support in the development of our accessible information.

Here are some of the fantastic ‘Making Things Happen Together’ outcomes for the people accessing our services!

  • Supporting two people in our services to learn to drive. The service contacted driving instructor services to meet our people and facilitated them to gain their provisional licences.
  • Developed a sensory room in partnership with the father of a person we support.
  • Supported families of people who use the service by inviting them to collaborate on celebration events!
  • Created a memorial garden in a service to remember the people we have supported throughout the years.
  • Supported people who wanted to find jobs to attend an inclusive job fair.
  • We are supporting a person to self-publish his poems via Amazon!
