Languages & Diversity – H&MDST Services
Homeless and Modern Day Slavery (H&MDST) Services stand for diversity and inclusion, as much as for living the SJOG values, in providing support to over 1200 survivors of modern day slavery and trafficking services.
For a service that’s entrenched in providing support to survivors from all over the world, one can only imagine the importance of having multi-lingual staff. That was at the very behest of H&MDST Services, more so in their strongest growth phase in 2021-2022.
Staff have been recruited with diverse backgrounds, qualifications and experience, but more so those who can speak with service users in their own language, making it both meaningful and easy to provide the necessary support to the survivors.
SJOG boasts having over 170 staff in H&MDST Services, speaking 40 different languages.
What does it mean for the survivors?
A sense of belonging! A feeling of understanding and being understood. Having a confidante and a support worker all rolled into one. But most of all a sense of being heard in the way they wish to express!
Having staff from diverse and multi-lingual backgrounds is one of the most unique features of the H&MDST Services in SJOG, and the one that remains at the very centre of person-centred support we offer to the survivors.
